Kwei, kwei,

For over 50 years, the Indigenous Métis of Maniwaki have come together to form our large family, the Maniwaki Indigenous Métis Community. I hope you enjoy browsing this site, which allows us to introduce ourselves and share with you our Indigenous friends, both at heart and in affiliation. Our actions and services are driven by our community, and if you would like to share interesting and useful information, you are welcome.

The Maniwaki Indigenous Métis Community is particularly proud to affirm the Métis identity of its members. The ancestors of the members of the contemporary community were part of the historical community that occupied, used, and frequented the territory of the Outaouais, Témiscamingue, and Abitibi regions before its forced subjugation to Quebec and Canadian law in the 19th century.

We owe a huge thank you to Mr. Dufault of Manitoba, who invited the Francophone Métis of Quebec to the annual Métis gathering in Batoche, Saskatchewan, where the last Métis battle took place over 125 years ago. Louis Riel, the father of Canadian Confederation, initiated a legal battle that has continued ever since. Enjoy your navigation! Meegwetch, Serge Paul, Chief
